Disclaimer:
By using and installing this application, you hold neither Lightning Knight
Goblin, or XPS or anyone else attached with this application liable for
any form of damage done to your computer or BBS. In development, this code
was designed to be harmless. Any tampering or reverse engineering without
the express permission of Lightning Knight is illegal, lame and I will find
you..
Author's Rantings:
Boy.. I'm glad this bitch programme is done... I had most of the source
done in 2 days... then I ran into the imagination problem (wouldn't lightbars
be really cool for an interface..!!) well yeah.. they are and here they are
thanx a bunch to Goblin... without this guy, you wouldn't be reading this
stuff... his arrow key reading routines are great.. (otherwise you would
have to use numlock and the num pad for movement...) what else... nuthin
really.. other than that if you are not in XPS or don't use our stuff...
boy, you must be lost... oh yeah... anyone who downloads the HAP-1196.ZIP
off of cdrom.com... be ready for a really disappointment.. the same with the
wOe packs... I thought I sucked when I started.. and I know my ansi never
will be really kick ass unlike unsane or krisis or kurrupt or anyone else
in the scene who can draw... but my ascii... ahhhh I dunno... all I can
say is that if I joined that group.. I would be the lord jazz of it...)
anyway enuf of the boring shit.. on with the docs...
Programme Info:
Ok.. you basically need a computer (386 or better..) and some kinda BBS
(preferably... if you use this for something else... let me know...) and
logically thereby some callers...
This programme will create all the necessary files that it needs.. run it
once and two files will appear : lk-news.ans (the display file)
news.txt (the file where you put the news)
Ok.. edit the news.txt with any conventional text editor and make sure
that you don't go beyond 72 columns (characters across basically) anything
extra is chopped off... I'll work on some word wrap routines if there is a
demand for it.. then once this is done, simply run bbsnews.exe again and
voila, the display file will be updated (after making a choice of styles)
Other Stuff You Need To Know:
This is not an online thing.. don't even attempt to use it as an online
door until I say that it'll support it... I'm trying to find some decent
comm routines that won't blow the exe out of proportion so that it can be
used online.. failing that.. if you need to do remote news do this..
write the text file up, jump to BBS dos (all decent BBS packages support
this facility) upload it to the same directory as the exe file and run the
exe.. then move the display to where it has to go..
The news.txt file needs to be in the same directory as the bbsnews.exe file
otherwise it will not be used.
If you don't like the style, send me the ansi, a border for the text and the
text colour (see the view styles option and you will see what I mean) and
then wait a few days.. I'll write the ansi into the exe and send you back
your own copy with it's own option in the lightbar...
Author's Greets:
Greets to:
- Goblin for the routines...
- Lucifer (Chaotic Prisoner), Warhammer, Kurrupt for the news ansis
that I used...
- KuRu my new cosys... who's still trying to convince me to learn a
"real" language like C...
- eFFeCT for bringing his domain back online.. I don't feel like
such a freak now...
- Ice Tiger for keeping my faith in BBS modding by requesting stuff
- The bastard phone company for kicking me off the internet thereby
forcing me to do work and not look at artpacks..
- Anyone who has or is doing an ansi/ascii for my board
